listen: “entertainment” – phoenix
Is there anything more fraught than realizing one of your favorite bands has released the first track of their upcoming album?
(Okay, yes. There are many things more fraught than this, but I’m talking within the context of the music blogosphere. Stick with me here.)
Immediately you get a rush of excitement, knowing you’re about to hear the first new music from that band in years. Then, following quickly behind is that rush of dread, as you remember all those terrible songs follow-up albums from bands you love.
So what I’m saying is it’s been a really roller-coaster ride for me since I saw this new track from Phoenix. I can only imagine what you’re experiencing, about to hear it for the first time. Especially given the weird pineapple album art going along with it.
But there’s good news! If you were a fan of 2009′s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, you’ll find something to like in “Entertainment,” the first song released off Bankrupt!, which will be out April 23rd via Loyauté/Glassnote.
Listen for: the choral-style synths at 2:48.
If you’re having trouble Thomas Mars’ French-accented vocals, check out this lyric video the band put together:

I heard this recently on Zane Lowe’s show and love it
For sure – looking forward to the album!
