listen: “try to be” – blue hawaii

At first listen, you might think Montreal duo Blue Hawaii are misnamed. You latch on to the second half of their name and expect island sounds, like something off of Taken By Tree’s latest album.
“Try To Be” is a bit too dark for that image. But when you take a second look at their name, you realize the melancholy within “Blue” counterbalances the lightness of “Hawaii” and everything starts to come together.
The duo, featuring Braids‘ lead singer Raph Standell-Preston, will be releasing their forthcoming full-length debut, Untogether, on March 5th via Arbutus. Take a listen to “Try To Be”:
Lyric to Consider: “May as well just be me.”
If you’re interested in the faster side of Blue Hawaii, take a listen to album track “In Two”:

I liked the Blue Hawaii In Two. It’s SO pretty and haunting!!
For sure. Looking forward to hearing the full album.
