listen: “blue ice” – shout out louds

So I couldn’t decide if I should post this, because it is so clearly a publicity stunt.  But at the same time, it’s one of the more bad ass publicity stunts I’ve come across (and I’m digging the song it’s promoting), so here goes:

Sweden’s Shout Out Louds are releasing their first song in three years, “Blue Ice,” as a 7″ single. Made of ice. Yes, ice.  The bad news? You probably can’t have one.

Here’s the deal: Merge has made 10 kits, consisting of a mold and a bottle of water, with which you can create your own ice record.  You can watch the video below to see how it works.

Best line in the video? “This is exactly what a record made out of ice sounds like.”  Yes, yes it does.

So how do you get your own? Send your mailing address to with “Blue Ice Vinyl” before Monday, December 3.  One very lucky person will win the kit.

Not feeling lucky today? Not interested in waiting six hours while your record freezes?  That’s okay, because you can listen to the non-freezing version of the single below, or grab it as a free download in exchange for liking their Facebook page:

Listen for: the beautiful instrumental section starting at 1:57.
