listen: “marilyn” – bat for lashes

Continuing with her naming trend, Bat For Lashes has released another song from her upcoming album The Haunted Man. Predictably, I like it less that the last one, but I bet there’s a lot of “Marilyns” out there who are digging it.
Jokes!
Despite the fact that it is NOT named after me, it’s still a terrific song. The vocals, as usual, are drop dead gorgeous and they build and release tension throughout the track.
And yes, the title is a reference to the most famous Marilyn – Monroe:
Holding you, I’m touching a star
Turn it into Marilyn, waiting out every big car

Listen for: the way the vocals are able to convey power without relying on volume in the chorus at 1:10.
Bat For Lashes will be touring Europe this fall, so check those dates if that’s where you are. The Haunted Man will be released October 15th via EMI, but you can grab a preorder now.
Bat For Lashes on 70dayweekend:

Gorgeous. Her vocals remind me a great deal of Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins. Ethereal yet emotionally weighty. Also really like the new singe “All Your Gold.” A little more upbeat and dance-y and sounds like a cross between the xx and Kimbra.
Thanks for the heads up! Just heard it and loved it.
