watch: “feel inside (and stuff like that)” – flight of the conchords

This week is Back to School in a lot of places around the country, and it is first time in 6 years that I won’t be getting a new class of second graders to love and hate.  So that may be why I am digging this new video from Flight of the Conchords.   It’s got all the good parts of kids (adorableness, ridiculously funny statements) and none of the bad (temper tantrums, crayons in noses).

The song and video were made to raise money for New Zealand-based charity Cure Kids, which raises money for medical research on the life-threatening illnesses affecting children.   To do so, Jermaine & Bret create a “We Are The World”-style benefit song in the best way possible.

The first section of the video features the duo meeting with kids to brainstorm lyrics for the song.  Then, they combine these lyrics into a complete song and record it with a bunch of other New Zealand artists.  And since it’s Flight of the Conchords, it will make you laugh AND get stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Let me give you a taste of some of these lyrics:

  • “Children getting sicker / Drinking too much bubble mixture / They all just want to be bubbles / We all just want to be bubbles”
  • “Those kids need us to come together / We can make them better / We can get them some feta”
  • “The kids that are sick cannot do hip hop any more / Their tummies / Their tummies could be very sore”

You can also learn about the “craziest financial system I’ve ever seen”:

Watch for: Bret and Jermaine trying to keep it together while asking one of the kids her opinion on the Muppet movie at 3:22.  [Background: Bret was the music supervisor for the movie.]

If you want to support Cure Kids, you can purchase the song on iTunes, and all profits go to the charity.
