watch: the xx, purity ring, and more

It’s Friday, and you’ve been working hard too hard all week. I’ve got too much music I want to share with you and not nearly enough time to post it all.  Don’t worry, I’ve got a solution to both of our problems.

It’s music video marathon time!  I’ve got five new videos for you, featuring the xx, Purity Ring, the Antlers, TRAILS AND WAYS, and Deep Time.  So go pop some popcorn, put on some headphones, and take a break.

First up, the xx have released a new version of “Angels,” filmed in a Tokyo hotel room.

Watch for: the out-of-focus city lights providing a gorgeous background at 1:37.

Continuing the live music vibes, here’s Purity Ring playing “Fineshrine”  at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge.  You can watch an interview with them, or skip ahead to 3:45 to see the performance.

Watch for:  the band explaining their elaborate lighting set-up at 2:42.

The Antlers have an appropriately-themed video for the track “Crest” off their recent EP Undersea. featuring lots and lots of jellyfish.

Watch for: the jellyfish?  Seriously, this video is hypnotic and I can’t pick a favorite jellyfish. I just can’t.

TRAILS AND WAYS have a new video for their standout track “Mtn Tune” that will make you wish you lived closer to the mountains.

Watch for: the band literally climbing rocks with their instruments at 1:15, and think about whether you could do that with your instrument of choice.

And rounding out our music marathon is Deep Time, who have released a video for “Gold Rush” off their self-titled release.

Watch for: the ghosts playing beach volleyball at 0:45.  Would playing vollyball with a sheet over you be easier or harder than TRAILS AND WAYS rock-climbing-with-instruments?  Make sure you take a side in this newly-created band rivalry.

And that’s all I’ve got for you, unless you want to start your Friday night dance party early with Major Lazer’s new video for “Get Free”, featuring vocals from Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors.   Go ahead – start dancing.
