There’s a handful of women out there right now making really fantastic electro-pop music, and UK-based Charli XCX is one of them. Her songs are catchy enough to get your singing along on the first play, yet interesting enough to keep you playing it over and over.
You can hear her style on the newly released track “You’re The One” streaming below. I love how how the breathy, almost goth-y vocals of the verse segue into a more traditional pop sound at the chorus.
Listen for: the spoken word section that begins at 2:28. For absolutely not reason, this reminds me of TLC’s “Waterfalls,” and I kind of love it.
Hearing Charli XCX for the first time, you, like me, are probably desperate to hear more. Unfortunately, we may need to wait a bit for that. The track you just heard is on her EP You’re the One, released today via iAMSOUND, but the rest of the tracks are remixes or previously released material. She does has an as-of-yet untitled album in the mix, again via iAMSOUND, but it won’t be released until October 2012 in the UK and Spring 2013 in the US.
To get your fill in the meantime, head over to Yours Truly to watch her do acoustic versions of this song, as well as “Stay Away”. She also has some US tour dates coming up supporting Coldplay. Check the list to see if she’ll be making it through your town.
