new sound: fear of men

One of the most hotly anticipated releases of this year, Beach House‘s Bloom, is being released this week via Sub Pop.  But let’s be honest – the album leaked a few months ago, and you’ve probably been enjoying it for a while now.

Are you looking for some fresh dream-pop to accompany your Beach House listening this week?  Look no further than London/Brighton-based group Fear Of Men.   The band, which formed in March 2011, has been steadily garnering buzz over the last year, and they’ve got a new 7″ coming out on June 18th via SEXBEAT.  Take a listen to the A-side “Green Sea” below.

There’s always discussions around this time of year about songs of the summer as folks get ready for warmer weather, and this track seems like it could fit wonderfully into an afternoon with friends near the water.  Even the bright robin egg blue on the cover is reminiscent of the Mediterranean.

You can pre-order the 7″ – which is b/w the track “Born” and limited to 300 copies  – here.

Okay, so you’re already digging their sound, but you want more while you’re waiting for your 7″ to arrive.  If you’re lucky enough to be in the UK, you can see the band live in June, with dates supporting Purity Ring & Best Coast.

If not, they’ve got a handful of releases you can check out over on their Bandcamp or Soundcloud.  In particular, I’m digging on the track “Ritual Confession,” which was released as a 7″ in last summer via Italian Beach Babes.  It’s a bit faster and more driving than “Green Sea,” showing another side to the band’s sound.

When a band has developed their sound this much in barely a year, it makes me excited about what’s to come.  Here’s to hoping for more releases – and maybe some US tour dates – by the end of 2012.
