watch: wild flag on letterman

Maybe it’s all the Portlandia promos I’ve been seeing, but I’ve recently decided Carrie Brownstein is one of the most bad-ass people on the planet. And her performance with Wild Flag on Letterman last month has done nothing to dissuade me from that opinion. The band played “Romance” off last year’s self-titled album – a song with just the right mix of 90s and 2011.
Really, it’s not just Brownstein that’s looking bad-ass here. All of these women have spent a lot of time on stage, and it pays off. They look just comfortable enough to really go for it, but not so comfortable that they’ve bored (and therefore boring). Plus, you gotta love a band that let’s everyone in on the vocals.
Though the entire video is killer, I can’t help but adore the little dance-off between Brownstein and guitarist Mary Timony at 1:51. Go ahead and watch it again – it’s still going to bring a smile to your face.

Thanks for the post! WF’s Houston show was awesome. Also, just started reading “Girls to the Front” last night – it’s a history of the Riot Grrrl movement, and really great so far!
I just read that book recently too! It definitely put Bikini Kill back on my playlist for a while. (Oh, and I’m totally kicking myself for not making it out to that show! Here’s to hoping they put out another record and come back around?)
