throwback thursday: lcd soundsystem
Apparently, I’m a sucker for LCD Soundsystem videos involving puppets/Legos/inanimate objects that talk. Because first, it was this video with Kermit belting out “New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down.” Then, it was this Muppets video that redeemed their song “Dance Yourself Clean.” (Of course, cutting about 5 minutes off that song would have redeemed it for me as well, but that’s another post.)
Now, Legos have come to the rescue, resurrecting what is arguably LCD Soundsystem’s best song, “All My Friends.”
With lyrics like:
You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan
And the next five years trying to be with your friends again
it’ll have you questioning your life choices within the first minute or so. It’s a song that is at once life-crisis-creating (because what am I doing with my life? What should I be doing with my life?) and comforting (because apparently everyone feels the same way). And because it’s LCD Soundsystem, it’s set to a brilliantly danceable beat.
And if you prefer your crisis in its original form, here’s the official video. But I’ll say this – can humans ever really express the complex emotions that Legos can?

You’re right. Legos do it better. In fact, the answer to the question here may be to replace friends with Legos.
